Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between asthma and oral health and factors influencing asthma in adults with oral health and oral health behavior. We also find out whether asthma is related to mental health and physiological factor of blood, and observe the affecting factors.

Methods : As a research method, raw data for the 7th period (2016-2018) of the National Health and Nutrition Survey conducted by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were used. Adults who over the age of 19 were classified and 12,639 were selected as final subjects. For statistical analysis with SPSS 22.0 statistical program, frequency analysis, cross-analysis, and logistic regression analysis were performed. In the case of continuous data, an independent sample T-test was performed, and the statistical significance level was defined as 0.05.

Results : The probability of asthma occurrence was statistically different within general characteristic (gender, age, school grade, income, and drinking). By independent variables in a logisic regression analysis, the asthma diagnosis group had more people with speech discomfort (OR=1.45) and chewing discomfort (OR=1.37), and the experience of toothache (OR=1.32) and permanent dental caries (OR=1.02) were found It appeared high. It was found that people perceived their health as bad (OR=0.51), suffered more depression (OR=2.4), stressed (OR=1.6), and limited activity (OR=2.6). In addition, the high sensitivity C protein reaction test (OR = 1.07) also showed higher values compared to the control group.

Conclusion : Our study show that oral health and mental health are associated with the asthma and influencing factors on asthma were oral health and behavior, mental health-related characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to understand of asthma-related risk factors on oral health, and to recognize the importance of systematic oral care education and regular dental visits to patients along with the treatment of asthma. Thus, this study would be provided the source on correct oral health management and prevention of asthma patients.
